Yay Collin!!

We are bursting at the seams proud of Collin this weekend.
All of a sudden he started reading signs and words on store windows while we were out shopping. I kept saying to Tim or Kayla, "did you tell him what that said?" To which I got astonished "Nooo's"
He has gone from reading Hooked on Phonics readers
to putting the skills in to practical use and it's awesome!
Watch out kindergarten, here we come!

Fun moments at the Dean house

I have never seen two animals love and care for eachother the way these two do and it warms my heart every day. Lucy literally cries when she can't find JuneBug.

The yard is dead from sitting for months with no one living here, but the kids don't mind... they are enjoying playing and running. We enjoy the canal behind us. It gives us a sense of openness and privacy.

I love seeing cuddly animals, can you tell?

I LOVE my Grandma's chair. It is a bright spot of color in our brown family room and the kitty has taken to napping there. Such a pretty sight and having so much of my Grandma's furniture brings me comfort, like she is here in our house in some way.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our new house

Well we are settled in to our new house and are enjoying it more than I can possibly express. The kids have plenty of room to play inside or out and keep pretty busy.
Here are several pictures. We still have a bit of unpacking and decorating to do but things are looking great! Don't be jealous of our kitchen wallpaper border.

Halloween night

Well the night after we attended the fabulous Halloween party (see post below) it was time to hit the streets on the longest trick or treating marathon I've ever been on. We went out for over two hours and the kids brought back several pounds of candy.
Whoa! I was quite interested in Halloween traditions this year and really thought about how it is different here in this warm climate.

First of all, when we went to the pumpkin patch the other day the kids and I went on a hayride looking out at palm trees right next to evergreens! Crazy!

On Halloween night we found that most people set up a little party pad in their driveway and sit outside. So at some houses they knocked on doors, but at many they just walked up to the driveway.
We walked in short sleeved shirts this year!
Lastly, Halloween is a big party here. People have outdoor movies projected on huge screens here, bonfires in their court, bounce houses and more!
The one negative thing I would say is that there is more mischief here and not of the innocent kind. More car break-ins, eggings, etc...

I won't go in to detail of what I will do to the kids who smashed Collin's pumpkin last night which made him cry when he woke up this morning and found it, but it won't be pretty should I learn who they are. Next year I'm waiting up... with pepper spray! And I aim to burn. On that note, here are my little vampires (who couldn't smile or their teeth would pop out) their friends and our precious pumpkins who are no longer with us... except for Kayla's Cyclops pumpkin who must have been deemed too ugly to smash.

Halloween Party

The kids were soooo excited for Papa Tom and Grandma Elephant's Halloween party.
The party last year was pretty spooktacular, but this year was even better!
(Darnit that my camera battery was dead so I had to take cell phone pix)
We were greeted at the door with cobwebs, scattered bones and a hanging skeleton.
When the door opened we were met by some pretty creepy characters.
Joann had a black stocking over her head which was quite scary looking and Tom had a Texas Chainsaw massacre looking mask on!
Grandma read a scary book to the kids, which they loved and then we moved on through the house. Harry Potter jumped out at us in the hallway and made us scream.
Then Captain Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean jumped out!
Last, there was a fortune telling gypsy waiting in the back bedroom (she was actually quite beautiful).
The kitchen was filled with lots of Halloween goodies.
The family room had a humongous spider web that the kids got tangled up in several times for fun. The party was SO fun and SO memorable.
The only problem I see is: how will Tom and Joann beat this party next year?!
