WOW!
We just found out that Kayla got the main role in the commercial she auditioned for.
We are so excited! This is a whole new world for us and I am still trying to learn the lingo and get used to having an "agent".
Her agent said that wardrobe and makeup would be calling us directly and to be sure to bring our work voucher (as I quickly scribble down notes as we talk)
My side of the conversation sounded like, "the what?" "the who"?? "OK what is that?"
Kayla will be so excited to learn the news!
She shoots this commercial this Sunday so wish us luck.

What I want to be when I grow up
This seems to be the constant topic of conversation in our house lately.
I think it is stemming, in large part, from Tim's recent 3 weeks of travel.
While Tim normally travels a couple of days here and there, he ended up being gone Monday through Friday three weeks in a row.
While he was gone Collin informed me that he too would be working for HP when he grows up. "That way I can always be with my Dad and we can take business trips together." So sweet... almost broke my heart.
Kayla has been interested in the same profession(s) for a while now. She would like to become a palentologist/author/professor. Someone who can dig for dino bones, write books about her adventures and teach others how to dig for dinosaur bones. If possible, she'd also like to implement these adventures in to her acting.
Sounds like she will be busy.
Collins aspirations have recently changed though. He has two important jobs in mind now. He would really really like to be a pilot. He says he may even go to the Air Force Academy and become a Blue Angel or Thunderbird. Or he might be a pilot who shoots bad guys down.
But he is equally interested in "being the guy who gives everyone snacks and drinks on the plane and opens the bathroom doors for people."
OK... whatever works.

Auditioning 101
Last night we had Papa Tom and Grandma Elephant over for a yummy crock pot dinner followed by wine and cake! We haven't had a feast like that in a while.
Kayla had her first commercial audition over the weekend and it was a very new and unique experience for all of us.
We learned that a TV commerical audition is MUCH different than a stage play audition.
Needless to say, we were not prepared for the experience.
We knew to bring two headshots and a resume, and Kayla was all ready to read a script or act for the directors.
But instead they had us come in to a casting room where Kayla was to stand on a piece of tape. They had her look in different directions while they focused a video camera on her and watched her appearance on a screen. Then they asked her a series of questions to see how she sounded. She did a great job following directions and answering the questions, but there was an underlying sense of confusion as she waited for her "moment" to read for the director or act.
Well now we know what to expect at these things, so last night we made a game of auditioning in front of a camera.
I pulled out the video camera and Kayla wrote scripts for everyone.
One by one we all had to audition in front of the camera using as much expression as possible and slating our names.
It was a lot of fun and Kayla loved playing director. Our scripts were silly, and we were very impressed with Grandma and Papa- we could see a LOT of where Kayla gets her acting bug from!! Kayla ended the evening by reading a Thank you note that she wrote from the director to the actors, congratulating us all on our wonderful performances. :)
What a great night!
And speaking (or writing) of acting, Kayla's new class at VYT will begin in January on Saturday mornings. They have added a "Play and Pretend" acting class right before hers for 3 and 4 year olds. Guess who wants to sign up?

So on Saturdays our new routine will be to get up, hit Starbucks right by the theater and take BOTH kids to their classes on Saturdays. Then we'll hang out at fabulous Copper Square afterwords. I'm looking forward to it!

Halloween
Chris and Kelsey came over to carve pumpkins with the kids and me.
Tim was out of town, and we were really bummed about him missing pumpkin
carving for the first time in our family.
So I'm glad we were able to share it with Chris and Kelsey.
Next night was Halloween and the kids had SUCH a great time.
We met up with Kayla's good buddy, Bailey (who is in her class and lives across the street.. that has been so nice) and her family. Tim went out with the kids and they ended up trick-or-treating for almost 2 hours due to the gorgeous weather.
We ended up going to Chris's and Nana and Papa's to trick-or-treat too.
It was so fun to see the kids dress up as characters and so nice for me to order costumes online.
I really appreciate creativity, but I am not crafty enough to put together some of their costume ideas. Good thing I have Nana nearby- next year Kayla wants to be a music note!

Chris and Kelsey's Bi-Partisan election party
What a blast Chris and Kelsey's Bi-Partisan dinner party was on Tuesday night.
They served "mavericky chili", "Yes we Can" cornbread and red and blue cupcakes.
Even the crazy lady from the McCain rally showed up!
What an awesome and emotional moment it was when the TV screen changed all of a sudden and flashed to "Obama Elected President"!
No matter who we all voted for, it was an incredible moment in history and so powerful to see African Americans everywhere moved to tears.
I may not agree with all of Obama's ideas, but I am so excited to see the country and the world so energized and emotional.
Yay for all of us!!!

Collin Days
Collin wanted me to take pictures of him riding his bike around on the street the other day. So I took my camera out and plopped down on the curb to watch and record.
All of a sudden I realized that I had the most beautiful view... right across the street! While our little rental home does not have much to offer in ways of landscaping, the two houses across from us sure do!
So I sat there and marveled at my view, when all of a sudden Collin popped in front of my camera, reminding me of what I was supposed to be photographing!!

how we spend our weekends
While some weekends mean work for me, most of the time we spend our weekends bike riding, going to parks, having movie nights and spending lots of time with family.
Joe's Farmhouse Grill and Coffee Shop is our "spot"
It's where I meet my parents, Chris and Kelsey for coffee on weekends and some weekdays. It is also where I have done my last few photo shoots.

It has been a real treat to live by Tim's parents and my parents and brother.
We are enjoying it immensly!!
